Training at CIT
Hello family and friends,
I am excited to announce that I will be headed to Uganda, Africa through an organization called United World Mission. I will be joining their team in August of this year (Lord willing) and my initial commitment is for two years, but I am open to serving for longer if that is what God intends for me.
The team I am joining has a lot of opportunities! They have begun major work on building a Ministry Center that includes a vocational school for teenage girls who have dropped out of elementary school. This is a place where the girls can learn hairdressing or sewing skills to start their own businesses, as well as basic skills such as reading and math. This team also has a farming project that teaches farming practices, and a program that trains and equips local pastors. If you would like more information about what is taking place in Uganda, you can look at https://hope58.org/. I personally look forward to contributing wherever needed, and to making a positive impact on the lives of young girls and children in the area.
Before I can go, I need to complete a seven-week training program in North Carolina. The training begins with a spiritual retreat on May 29th, followed by a language and equipping program designed to prepare missionaries for the field. This program has already started, and this week has been a blessing in so many ways.
One of the main topics discussed this week is spiritual formation. Spiritual formation refers to the process of transformation that occurs among Christians as we strive to become more like Christ. A crucial aspect of this process is learning how to read the Bible in a way that encourages conversation with God and inspires prayer. If you are curious about the particular method we are using to read Scripture, It is known as Lectio Divina.
During our devotional times, I have found great fulfillment in worshipping God and contemplating His nature. A recurring phrase that has surfaced during these times is, “God works all things for His glory and our good.” How comforting it is to know that we serve a God who orchestrates things with His children in mind.
Please pray for me during this time of training, that God may use it to prepare me for Uganda and to share His Word with others.
Romans 8:28
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose."
